Day 16 / 365 – Photo a Day Project 2023

Woke to snow this morning! Can’t really complain, I didn’t have to go anywhere today so I was lucky 🙂 A proper winter day and a lovely change from the dreich greyness and strong winds of the last few days.

Couldn’t resist the beautiful rays of light as the sun got low in the sky

Day 14 / 365 – Photo a Day Project 2023

OK, I know, I’m starting to sound like a cracked record where the weather is concerned; it’s gales, rain and endless greyness again today. I didn’t think i’d mange out for a walk but late afternoon, dusk really, I headed down the road. It was so cold I think I was getting brain freeze…

Grey, dreary and very rough out there
I stood at the sink watching the rain beating against the window

Day 12 / 365 – Photo a Day Project 2023

Another wet day of forced confinement, too wet and windy to venture out, well, I could but I really couldn’t muster the enthusiasm 🤣 I did make myself useful by starting to have a clear out and declutter in my studio so that I can actually sit at my desk to work and be creative.

As I looked out of the window I saw these Goldfinches in the tree outside, they are, at least, undeterred by the weather 🙂 My mum still calls them by the old Shropshire name of “seven-coloured linnet” which I think is lovely and really describes them well.

Day 11 / 365 – Photo a Day Project 2023

After three days of not being able to get out due to the horrible weather I saw a bit of sunshine and went for it! The sky was still looking pretty threatening and I didn’t go too far, it rained very very briefly on me but waited until I got back through the door at home before the heavens opened 🙂

More rain coming, South Uist

Day 7 / 365 – Photo a Day Project 2023

Well, I made it through a full week of photographing every day 🙂 Out and about this morning during a break in the weather – it was supposed to be 6’C but with winds of 35mph it felt like freezing – i’m pretty sure my eyeballs were frozen into their sockets by the time I got home!

Hooded Crow – new for my patch birding list
Next stop Canada…

Finally home!

We were finally able to get a flight back out of Cyprus on the 2nd August 2020 when the government there unbanned flights in from the UK. Sadly there were still no direct flights back to Scotland for the forseeable future so we had rather a convoluted route home: Paphos -> Gatwick, overnight there in a hotel, Gatwick -> Glasgow, overnight there in a hotel then Glasgow -> Benbecula the next day.

After three days travelling, three flights and two hotel stays we though we should quarantine ourselves for 14 days on returning home as the last thing we wanted to do was spread this thing around our island when they’ve fought so valiantly to keep it out (thankfully, as there are NO intensive care facilities here!).

So today, 18th August we are finally free to go out and about and do our own shopping! Our neighbours Bill and Norma have been fantastic – with both looking after our house while we were away and getting shopping and supplies for us while we were in quarantine. We always looked forward to our weekly Zoom chat with them while we were away 🙂

The weather has been incredible since our return – warm and mostly calm – quite a lot of mist.
I’m not sure whether the cattle were cooling down or whether the midges were less by the water than out on the machair.

Photo Project 365 – Week 9 – February and March 2018

This week’s theme is Buildings

Lots and lots and lots of rain this week. Hey, whatever happened to “the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain.” Clearly disproved! Some of my photos this week were not strictly buildings, more structures but as it’s my own personal project i’m feeling free to interpret the projects as I wish. I’m sure you’ll understand 😀

60/365 After all the rain we headed to La Janda, the water level is the highest i’ve seen it. The sluice was open – just as well because the water was going around the side of it…

61/365 Sluice again. Rained all night and there is yet more water!

63/365 OK this really is the last sluice photo! Got to be at it’s highest point now. La Janda fields very flooded but managed to get some Bluethroat shots 🙂 See other post.

Well the Seawhite sketchbook i’m using to put my printed out photos into is working out great, though it’s getting hard to close now and it’s only a third full! Don’t quite know what it will be like by the end of June – will report back then 🙂

Even after only 63 days of the project it’s already very satisfying to look back at my daily photo journal.

My iPad which I love!!

Instax Share SP2 Printer

(note that there is now also a newer model out, the Instax Share SP-3 Printer)

Fujifilm Instax Mini Film – 20 shots

though for my project I have now bought the Fujifilm Instax Mini Film – 100 shots pack to get me started.

The sketchbook I am using for my journal is the square, black Seawhite 140mm x 140mm 140gsm artist’s sketchbook I have bought two of these and using a page a day I reckon each one should last me 6 months.

The above links take you to Amazon UK where there is information about each product. Any purchases made using the links given above will give me a teeny, tiny bit of commission which I will put to good use during future weeks and future projects.

Storm Frank

Well I think we got off fairly lightly last night, storm Frank came and went, with a high gust of 65mph, power out for just a very short while but, thankfully, no damage to the house.

An afternoon spent doing some gelli printing for my Journey Book, chatting with my mum on Skype and a fabulous sunset late this afternoon to end the day – I had to run out and capture it with my phone.
