Photo heading up Birdguides Review of the Week

Excellent to have the American Redstart photograph featured in the Birdguides Review of the Week  6th to 12th September 2017.

Local birder Bruce Taylor had found this delightful but rather rare North American migrant in Eoligarry, Barra on the 8th September. The first twitchable American Redstart since 1985 in the UK.

Back at the desk

Well, I arrived back in Uist late on Friday evening. Orders received via my website during my holiday have been dispatched via first class mail today – apologies for the delay – thanks for your patience ladies and gents

Had a fabulous end of season break. Managed two full day printmaking workshops with the fabulous Jenny Gunning at Shropshire Fine Art in Ironbridge. I hope to do two more next time i’m down visiting family. While I was in Norfolk I did a two day art course with Steve Cale which was very enjoyable.

I visited London – only the fourth time in the last thirty years  Went to the private view of the NOA exhibition and it was great to see my photo “The Way” hung with all the fabulous art. Even better I sold the framed print and two un-mounted prints, with another order being received as well – only 5 of the edition of 10 left now.

New print: Raven on Standing Stone

I have to admit I do have quite a thing about Raven’s, they are wonderful birds, what I would call “birds of character

When this one perched momentarily on a local standing stone I thought it was the perfect shot 🙂  With my love of combining my art and photography I hope you will agree that it makes for a moody, mystical image.

Now available in my online shop as a print, mounted in 12″ x 10″ ready to frame in a standard-sized frame.

Creative Every Day

Well, even though i’ve been away from home for over two months i’ve still managed to be creative every day. I wasn’t so active on the art side of things – I had taken a lot of painting and drawing supplies with me but I think I underestimated the amount of time that I would have for art!

Anyway, I took around 3,000 photographs (nearly all birds!) which I am still working my way through and also managed to crochet every day.

I was very systematic with the photographs – whatever i’d taken during the day I would sit at my laptop in the evening and go through the images, throwing out all the ones that I wasn’t totally happy with.

Viskarret to Larrasoaña

Walk: Viskarret -> Larrasoaña (10.1 miles)

A very enjoyable walk from Viskarret. Walked mostly on my own, really enjoyed the woodland section. Had a long rest in Zubiri to rehydrate and wait for P and J.

Checked in to the municipal albergue in Larrasoaña, a bit grotty and in need of a lick of pain but for eight euros a bed i’m not complaining.

Dropped my camera! I thought it was totally knackered but I took the battery out, put it back in and turned on again and it started working. Phew! The filter that I keep over the lens is a little bent but did it’s job in protecting the glass.

J was tired and went to bed around 6pm so P and I headed off to the bar and sat drinking wine for a few hours, watching the world go by and chatting.
